DISTRICT #1
LEGISLATIVE REP

       hfisher@oksd.wednet.edu

I am proud to be a part of the success of the Okanogan School District where all students are safe, supported and receive an exceptional education.  Go Bulldogs!

Meet Heather Fisher, a devoted stay at home mom, and District #1 Board Representative for Okanogan School District.

Heather served as a 911 operator, handling emergencies and coordinating responses for Police, Fire, & Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Her experience shaped her perspective on the importance of community and quick thinking.

Heather believes that a transparent, open and honest relationship is necessary for the board to operate successfully. Having a diverse group of individuals serving & partnering, with families & community is critical for a positive future of the District. She will continue to work with the board for much needed building upgrades for all of our schools to keep our children in a safe and positive learning environment. She also was an advocate for our Levy Renewals in 2023.

For the past few years Heather’s daughters have been participating in showing chickens at the county fair; she and her family volunteer as much as able with the barn and grounds duties in hopes that her children and all other fair families are able to continue learning such valuable lessons in hard work and dedication. She also recently became a member of the Okanogan Eagles and is excited to be able to participate in community activities & events.

While she served in the 2022-23 term she was part of the Districts Strategic Planning Committee, and was elected as the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) Legislative Representative by her board peers. In this position she serves as liaison with the board and WSSDA keeping them up to date on advocacy opportunities and emerging issues that come up. She also monitors legislation that could impact our schools and keeps the board informed.

Her previous career as a 911 dispatcher has cultivated a special skill set in critical thinking and problem solving skills. She is well versed with the workings of local authorities and first responders. This gives her an advantage to help shape policies and procedures that protect our children at school, in extra circular programs, and at community events.

When she is not immersed in the joys and chaos of daily life, she is with her husband of 18 years and four children enjoying the great outdoors, camping, kayaking, & fishing. You will also find a book with her at all times, as an avid reader she believes in the power of stories to inspire, educate, and transport us to different worlds.

As a mother with children in the district, she is encouraged to help shape the future of our students and the district, most importantly keeping all of our students safe, supported and receiving an exceptional education. She is proud to be part of the success of the Okanogan School District, invites all parents and community members to be actively involved and hopes to see you at monthly board meetings.
